A Bit More About Me

I am Steven Beardsley, age 25, and currently live in Portland, Oregon. I work downtown at Discover-e Legal and love cycling. I live with my wonderful girlfriend and our two bunnies, Maxie and Victor.

My Past:

I grew up in a small town, about 30 miles west of Portland, called Banks. My parents have a small 5 acre farm that I lived at my entire life until I went off to college. All through my youth, I had my older brother to play with during the summers. When I was 8, I gained another brother, Nick, and was no longer the youngest.

I became a Christian when I was in Jr. High after attending West Hills Friends with my dad for a few years. I still go to West Hills and love my community of friends that I have there.

My athletic career started when I started playing T ball at a young age. I played baseball during the summers until my sophomore year, when I started running track. In 7th grade I also started playing football and wrestling. I continued playing all three of these sports through high school and received numerous letters and awards for them.

After high school I attended George Fox University for two years. I studied history and ran track while I was there. My main focus in track was the 400 IM Hurdles.

After leaving Fox, I worked for a summer at Twin Rocks Friends Camp. After the summer was done, I started working full time at Pacific Legal. After about a year of not doing anything athletic, I started cycling.

My Cycling:

I started cycling in July of 2004. My brother had been racing for about year at that point and I would go to watch him race often. The velodrome peaked my interest because it seemed a lot like the sprinting that I had done when I was a runner. So I started going out to the track classes and soon started racing. I raced mainly on the track for the three months that were left in the season.

Cycling has now become a huge part of my life is I dedicate a lot of my time, money and energy into becoming the best I can. So far it has treated me well as I have placed at the national level and found lifelong friends (and my girlfriend) through the sport. I am excited for each new race and what it will have to offer.
